Attitudes Of York County

I recently read an article written by someone who moved here from another area and feels like they are not wanted here.  Their money is but not them.

I think most people living around the York, PA area are different than most people from the South, I will call it.  We are friendly, but nothing like down south.  In the south, people don't need to know you to be friendly to you.  Around here, if you do not know someone, don't expect them to say HI just because.  It is sad but true.

I think the main problem Yorkers have with the people moving up from MD is not them but the fact that the home prices have risen and people who were born and raised in York County can hardly afford to live here now.  But that is not the fault of those moving here.  That is the way it is.

If you are reading this and you are from down south, don't be discouraged.  If you are from York County, lighten up.

I can tell you why Marylanders are not percieved as being welcome in PA. The main reason is that the majorty of people coming from there are liberals who challenge the political views and cause aggravation to York area locals. Gun control nuts, people who believe in social engineering and the welfare state are only a couple reasons Maryland transplants are not openly welcomed in this area. Most folks in the York and surrounding areas have strong conservative views. As Marylanders infiltrate our area, we begin to see new restrictions, legislation, challenges and changes to our laws and way of life that negatively affect our area and our belief system in general. If these people insist on moving here, they need to concentrate on conforming to our way of life rather than attempting to change this area into something similar from which they came...a liberalized state with high taxes, oppressive government controls, rampant welfare recipients and a skewed way of looking at life in general.
